TEACHING

TEACHING

When I am asked, “Do I enjoy teaching?” I respond, “I live what I teach, and I love it.” The fields of Digital Media, Art & Music are integral parts of my life, I benefit from them everyday and I share my enthusiasm through teaching. Engaging students creates enthusiasm, a passion that is truly contagious.

While in the classroom, one of the methods I use is by sharing projects and experiences I have had working with clients. We examine the entire process including consultation, planning, construction, revisions, and closing procedures. The more I can associate each lecture or assignment with “real world” experiences I have had, the greater the student engagement, which motivates me to continue my freelance work and stay current on trends and technology.

Another method I use to instill engagement is by creating course content that follows the current trends in digital communication. Examples of this include website interface design that is intuitive with human computer interaction principals, instructional based “how-to” assignments that use animation tools like Adobe Edge Animate, and the use of CMS (content management systems) as Word Press and Joomla in the management of large-scale projects. The power of audio and video integration in their deliverables is also a major discussion as bandwidths have increased. All of these items are encapsulated through the emphasis of creating a personal brand and supporting it with “Social Media Marketing” tools and methods that have become commonplace for graduates entering the workforce. The culmination of over 10 years of glowing student evaluations, and support from faculty and staff at New England Tech has shown that my methods of student engagement are successful. I will continue to support these philosophies to make my all my courses exceptional.
