When people asked whether I enjoyed teaching, I’d answer, “I live what I teach, and I love it.” Digital media, art, and music are part of my everyday life, and teaching let me share that enthusiasm. Engaged students create more engagement, and the passion is contagious.

In the classroom, I grounded lessons in real client projects, walking students through the full process: consultation, planning, production, revisions, and delivery. The more closely each assignment tracked real-world work, the more engaged students became. It also kept me active in freelance work and current on tools and trends.
I built course content around how digital communication was actually changing. That included interface design grounded in human-computer interaction principles, animated “how-to” projects, content management systems such as WordPress and Joomla for large-scale projects, and the growing role of audio and video as bandwidth increased. Every course tied back to building a personal brand and supporting it with the social media tools graduates would need in the workforce.
Over fourteen years at New England Tech (2007–2021), consistently strong student evaluations and the support of faculty and staff showed that these methods worked.

Reviewing student portfolios is one of the most rewarding tasks as an educator. Students are thrilled to have a tangible location to show their mixed media content to employers.
